Welcoming the new year...

It's great to be back up and running on a full basis again to welcome in the new year. After several weeks of babying my old monster of a desktop, it finally went to the pit in the sky. (or the dump).  While I'm not at full power yet with all my documents and programs, I was thankful to have all my stuff backed up so that I can restore them.

One thing I wanted to talk about was the power of google searches in your ancestor's history.  You may be surprised to find some information out there about you missing ancestor on other people's webpages and on those webpages of people who've married into the family.

While you are out there enjoying your after-Christmas shopping and preparing for the celebrations of the upcoming evenings, don't forget to document your "future history" with your camera, your videos, and even a funny story told by a relative that you can later write down. Just about every smart phone has a voice recorder now which makes remembering those stories even easier on the next day after you heard it.

Be safe out there. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and enjoy your adventures in genealogy!!
