John J Bailey was born about 1910 to Robert Severs Bailey and Helen Benson in Trenton, New Jersey.
1910 Census:
John was just born - 3 months old- born in New Jersey living with his parents, a sibling, grandmother and an aunt in Trenton, Mercer, New Jersey.  Robert was 27 years old born in New Jersey working as a Driver for an Ice wagon. Both his parents are listed as being born in New Jersey. Ellen [Helen] was 24 years old married 3 years, mother of two children both living, born in England. Both her parents are listed as being born in England. Says she immigrated in 1908. Robert Jr was 1 year old born in New Jersey. Also enumerated in the household is Ellen Benson age 43, mother-in-law, widowed. Mother of 4 children, 3 living. Born in Ireland both her parents were born in Ireland. She says she immigrated in 1884. Catherine Benson, age 18, sister-in-law, born in New Jersey. Says both her father was born in England and her mother in Ireland. 
1920 Census:
John was 10 years old born in New Jersey living with his parents Robert and Helen as well as a brother in Hamilton, Mercer, New Jersey. Robert is 35 years old born in New Jersey working as a welder in a machine shop. He says both his parents were born in England. Helen was 34 years old born in England. Immigrated in 1905 and Naturalized in 1908. Both her parents are listed as being born in Ireland. Robert Jr was 11 years old and born in New Jersey.

1930 Census: 
John  was 20 years old living with his parents Robert and Helen in Hamilton, Mercer, New Jersey. He gives his occupation as a salesman for a dry goods store. His father Robert was 47 years old born in New Jersey and lists his occupation as a Welder in a machine shop. Both hid parents were born in New Jersey. His mother Helen was 46 years old born in New Jersey. Both her parents were born in England.
1940 Census:
John was 30 years old living in Hamilton, Mercer, New Jersey with his parents Robert and Helen. He is listed as single with an occupation of Auto Mechanic. He did not attend school/college, but finished the 8th grade. He works 40 hours a week for 52 weeks in 1939 with an income of $1560. His father Robert was 56 years old working as a maintenance man for a bank and his income was $1392. His mother Helen was 56 years old.
