This photo, taken by Bill Mordeca is of Betsy Moseley meormial. The way memorials were done years and years ago really is an art form from artists that were rarely if ever named and noted. Sometimes very elaborate and large, they seem to be impenetrable fortresses to hold the loved ones name forever. Many contain loving words to their dear departed. Often times a enduring saying. Occasionally a fun and lively one much like the person who it was written for. I have often wondered if the artist creating these memorials got a chuckle or two at the dearly departed's family's way of mourning the loss with humor. Who were these unsung heroes of the deceased? Did you have anyone in your family tree who created these monuments? I enjoy seeing these lovely pieces of art filled with grief and sadness of those left behind and I'm drawn to the old and faded stones instead of the bright shiny and sparkly ones. I hope that you've taken the time to stop and pay some due respect to the people in the cemetery you have combed through, muse at the occasional humor, and admire the feats of sculpture that the artists created.... and as always enjoy your Adventures in Genealogy.
