It seems that every family has unique traditions. What are yours?
This weekend for us was Christmas Lights weekend when we put all the outdoor lights up so we'll be ready for Thanksgiving and not worry about it. While we were doing that we were enjoying the beautiful sunny 65 degree weather in our Tshirts and shorts. This got me to thinking about my father's favorite family tradition of hanging our outdoor lights in a blizzard. Of course, I was the designated light holder while he hung them. It was always the coldest day of the year with the most snow, ice and other precipitation. And they must get hung of course before we can do anything else that day. Here in Alabama, I chuckle at that thought and joke that it's so much nicer to do it in shorts than in a full snowmobile suit, boots, hat and mittens. As you prepare your home for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, think about what traditions your immediate family had, as well as explore your research for family traditions in the earlier days. What do you think they decorated on a christmas tree if they had one? What things do you think would have been around in the mid 1800's? Or even earlier! As you think about that, do some googling for information in the times of some of your favorite genealogy characters. Have fun in y
